Month of the Senior Cat
October is Senior Cat Month, an initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health and wellbeing of older cats.
From the age of 7, cats are generally considered senior cats. From this age onwards, the risk of age-related health problems and conditions increases. These may include:
Changes may also occur in your cat’s weight, behaviour, coat care, or eating and drinking habits.

Signs of health problems
Cats are very good at hiding signs of illness or discomfort. However, there are certain signs you can look out for, including:
- Changes in behaviour, such as hiding, not wanting to be petted or even becoming aggressive
- Weight loss
- Increased drinking
- A dull or unkempt coat
- Vomiting
- Less jumping or stiff movements
- More frequent or plaintive meowing
The importance of regular health checks
Cats are good at hiding signs of illness, which means health problems can go unnoticed for a long time. Regular health checks are therefore important. Detecting health problems at an early stage can help prevent unnecessary discomfort and more intensive treatments. This can make treatment less stressful for your cat, increase the chances of successful treatment and often help keep costs considerably lower.
Senior Health Check for Cats
Is your cat 7 years or older? Then October is a great time to take a moment to consider your cat’s health.
We offer a special senior health check for older cats. During this comprehensive health check, we assess your cat’s overall condition, teeth, heart and lungs, joints and blood pressure. We also perform comprehensive blood and urine tests.
Afterwards, we discuss the results with you and provide clear advice. Together, we will consider whether treatment is necessary and, if so, which treatment would be appropriate. Everything is always discussed with you beforehand, so you know exactly what to expect.
