COMMON
DISEASES IN DOGS
We are happy to provide you with the necessary medical information so that you can recognise, prevent or cure disorders in your dog in time. On this page, you can read more about some common disorders. Of course, our vets and assistants are always at your service if you have additional questions or are unsure what to do.
This page is in progress. We are working hard to complete the page. Its articles can already be read in Dutch and will be available in English as soon as possible.

Common diseases in dogs
We believe it is important to inform you as fully as possible about all possible conditions that may occur in your dog’s life. Should the disease symptoms below not match your dog’s symptoms, please contact us. You can also take a look at Advice and Information, where we describe important events your dog may go through as accurately as possible. This way, you will be well prepared for what is (to come) and how best to act on it.
Dermatology
Internal Medicine
Bladder Infection
Is your dog suddenly urinating in unusual places indoors, or does the urine have a very strong smell? These may be symptoms of bladder problems.
Uterine Infection
A uterine infection (pyometra) is a fairly common condition in female dogs. The cause of this infection is hormonal, so it only occurs in dogs that have not been spayed.
Ear Infection
In an ear infection, the skin of the ear canal becomes inflamed and starts to swell, causing the ear canal to gradually narrow.
Viral or Bacterial Infections
Kennel Cough
Kennel cough is a contagious respiratory condition that can be caused by various types of viruses and bacteria.
Parvovirus
Parvovirus is highly contagious and life-threatening. Intensive and prompt treatment is necessary. It spreads through the feces and vomit of infected dogs.
Weil’s Disease
Weil’s disease is a serious bacterial infection that can sometimes be fatal. A proper vaccination schedule for dogs can prevent this unpleasant disease.
Orthopedics
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a form of cartilage wear in the joints. As a result, the bones rub against each other during movement, which is very painful.
Parasites
Ear mite
Ear mites are tiny spider-like critters that live in the ears of dogs and cats and can cause irritation and infection of the ear.
Fleas
Dogs and fleas: they are not good friends. A flea causes itching and, in severe cases, even leads to anaemia.
Worms
Dogs can unfortunately suffer from worms. As puppies, they are already infected in the womb.
Ticks
A tick is a small, blood-sucking parasite that burrows into the skin of humans and animals. Because dogs are outdoors a lot, they are at relatively high risk of tick bites.
Giardia
Giardia is a common intestinal parasite that can be found in dogs. Many dogs carry this parasite in their intestines without showing any signs of illness.
