Britt
Hi!
My name is Britt, and I’ve been working at De Dierenkliniek since November 2024! I’ve been passionate about animals from a very young age. No dog, cat, sheep, goat, pony, or cow ever missed out on cuddles or attention. Back then, I dreamt of becoming a dolphin trainer, but in the end, I decided to stick with the more ‘traditional’ land animals.
I completed my entire veterinary degree at Ghent University in Belgium. Unfortunately, I wasn’t selected for the program in Utrecht so I joined our friendly southern neighbours instead. The keen listener might still notice a few ‘unusual’ words slip into my Dutch during our consults. 😉
I was born and raised in Haarlem, so I’m practically within rolling distance of Dierenkliniek Spaarne, where you’ll find me three days a week. I also work one day a week at Dierenkliniek Vondelpark. I’m still getting used to the hustle and bustle (and traffic!) of Amsterdam, both inside and outside the clinic.
I grew up in a very sporty family, so I love spending my free time on the hockey, padel, or tennis court—and during the summer, you’ll often find me on the golf course as well. I also enjoy relaxing on the couch with a good book under a warm blanket, alongside my Labrador x Belgian Malinois mix, Tyla.
As a child, I was fascinated by the show Houston SPCA on Discovery Channel, where abused and neglected animals were rescued, cared for, and rehabilitated in shelters and animal hospitals. That definitely helped spark my ambition to study Veterinary Medicine, in the hopes of one day helping many stray and vulnerable animals. My neutering internship in Canoa Quebrada, Brazil in 2024 was already a step in the right direction, and it reignited that same drive.
Who knows where I’ll be in 10 years—but for now, I’m excited to gain lots of experience and knowledge here at De Dierenkliniek! 🙂
